Former F1 driver Martin Brundle wasat a loss to explain SergioPerez's crash in FP1 for the Hungarian Grand Prix. The Mexicandippeda wheel onto the grass on the entry to Turn 5, spinning intothe barriers andcausing extensive damage to the suspension, frontwing, floor and sidepod afteronly four minutes of running at theHungaroring. Perez's mechanics were able to fixthe damage in timefor the Mexican to take part in FP2, in which he finished a lowly18th, but Red Bull MotorsportAdvisor Helmut Marko confirmed thatPerez has no remaining spare parts for the restof the weekend. "Ican't get my head aroundthat. It is a rookie error," Brundle toldSky F1 of Perez"s crash. "I think back to his victories earlierthis year, hisbrilliant victory in Saudi Arabia and Azerbaijan, hisutterly brilliant victorylast year in Singapore on a drying trackin one of the most challenging races Ihave seen for a long timewhere he was perfect, and then he does that. "I can only assumeit'spressure because he didn't just clip the edge of the grass orthe white line,he was on the grass by a metre or something and Ican't get my head around itat all." Perez crash hindered upgradeunderstanding Perez's crash is the latest in aserious of errors theMexican has made lately, with him having failed toqualify in thetop ten for five consecutive races. Red Bull have brought anupgradepackage to the Hungarian Grand Prix featuring a new sidepoddesign, and Brundlenoted that Perez's reduced running will haveaffected the team's understandingof the new parts. "Red Bull wanthim glued to Verstappen's gearbox when he'snot winning, maximisingthe points. What they don't want him doing is throwingall the newupgraded sidepods and bits and pieces in the fence. "Then theydidn't get much runningin the other car in the dry when they've gotquite an extreme cooling situationgoing on there with the sidepods."They needed to get up and running and the level that they'reat, the experience the drivers have got at Red Bull, they did not needthat carin the wall. "Sergio is so rock solid. All through hiscareer, he's notbeen that dynamic sometimes, he goes on the missinglist sometimes, but he is fast, consistent, keeps the tyres intact."So all of these errors are soinconsistent with how his Formula 1career has been."
